You could, depending on a variety of factors.

If you're an EU citizen, you can live anywhere in the EU as long as you work or study there of have enough financial means to support yourself. So you would either need to have a job or money.

As a non-EU student you can stay six months before you need to have a job or apply for an extension to search for a job for longer which may be granted as long as you can support yourself. Having a job would mean getting a working visa instead of a student one.

Either way, your best bet of staying in Sweden would be to get a job.

As another person noted, international graduates can stay in the U.S. for a year pursuant to an OPT (or three years if they have a STEM major). The OPT requires (i) a job, or (ii) a volunteer position at a nonprofit, in their field of study, and for at least 20 hours a week. Some nonprofits, such as ours, host graduates on OPT, either for a fixed period of time or while they are job-hunting.

I assume by international student you mean an F1 Visa. If so then 60 days is the maximum you can stay in the US after completion of your course.of study or optional practical training. The guidance page from Customs and Border Protection department advises you do not overstay even by a day and should you foresee that you will have to stay longer, you must apply for an extension.

Is it possible for an international student to stay in the US after graduation and become a US citizen?

Is it possible for an international student to stay in the US after graduation and become a US citizen?2021-06-15 16:25:03Mr_文

Yes, it’s definitely possible. But there’s no easy or quick path.

There are some people who come to the US to study and once they graduate, they look for employers that will sponsor them for a work visa (the H-1B being the most popular). After working for a year or so, some of these employers will start the green card process for them. Depending on what category the employee falls under (Green Card for Employment-Based Immigrants), it could take anywhere from months to years to obtain a green card. And after the employee has held a green card 5 years, they can then apply for citizenship.

The other way someone can obtain US citizenship is by marrying a US citizen. The process of obtaining the green card and citizenship is quicker this way since they can apply for citizenship after holding the green card for 3 years, but they’ll need to be able to prove that the marriage is a bona fide one.

Yes.

If you earn at Least a Masters degree (preferably a PhD), you can use the OPT (Optional Practical Training) time to work for a company/university and to become so invaluable to the company/university that the company/university will petition the US government to give you a “green card” (permanent residency).

Of course many others have short-circuited that by falling in love with an US citizen and getting married.

Easy.

It depends on where you come from.

I tried googling your question using the exact same words, and the first hit was this site: Work after graduation

The site states the following:

  • Nordic citizens of Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden are free to enter, reside, study and work in Denmark. Neither visas nor residence or work permits are required.
  • EU/EEA/Swiss citizens do not need to apply for a work permit. You may stay in Denmark under the EU rules regarding the free movement of people and services. But if you want to stay for longer than three months, you must apply for a registration certificate under EU rules. The application must be submitted within three months of entering Denmark. Please note: the special interim arrangement concerning employees from Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia ended on 1 May 2009.
  • Non-EU/EEA/Swiss citizens will need a residence permit to work in Denmark. Upon graduation from a Danish higher education institution, your residence permit will remain valid for an additional six months, allowing you to seek employment in Denmark. Provided your visa hasn’t already been extended for an extra six months you can apply for such an extension to your permit. For further information on how to extend your residence permit, please visit:http://www.nyidanmark.dk/en-us/coming_to_dk/studies/extension.htm

This information is correct right now (january 2016) but it may become outdated at some point if the government changes the rules, so I would always suggest that you seek out information that is up-to-date on the relevant websites.

An international student can stay in the US for up to an year after graduation, in most cases, provided you have applied for OPT (optional Practical Training).

However, for long term solution, you need to find a job that sponsors a work visa for you, to be able to live there. Here are some tips to help you get through finding a job in the US-

  • Begin Early

All job seekers must start early, especially international students. As, it is going to take you longer to find employment with a company that will sponsor employees who need work visas, so the sooner you start, the better.

  • Be Aware of the Rules and Regulations

You are going to need to know the rules and regulations of your specific situation. Make sure you know which visas you need, including the different possibilities, deadlines, and potential costs. The more familiar you are with these things, the more confident you will feel when applying for jobs; as you may be required to educate the employers in some cases.

  • Explore Your School's Resources

Every school offers career services, and they are likely to have a good deal of experience helping international students to find jobs in the US following graduation. Take advantage of that experience, and set up a meeting with a career coach to discuss your specific situation and goals. You will also want to attend career fairs and talk to the recruiters, build relationships. And follow up with them for potential interviews.

  • Network

Maximum jobs are found through solid connections. Take advantage of your school’s community; talk to alumni groups who have gone through the same process you are. Build up relationships with your professors and even parents of your American friends; you never know from where or from whom an opportunity comes your way.

  • Stay Positive and Be Persistent

Job hunting can be exhausting and stressful to say the least. You might feel that you are working yourself to the bone, with no noticeable results. The important thing now is to not give up. A positive attitude and confidence in your abilities will show in everything that you do, and will make employers want to invest in you. Hence, don’t give up on yourself. All the best!
