Candidly, just start applying. Your degree will serve you well.

Here is a creative strategy for becoming an HR candidate:

Locate an upcoming regional or even national HR/training conference going on within 200 miles of where you live. Find a way there, and check the online event schedule before you go. Print some simple business type cards that say your name, degree, and contact information - that’s it.

Here’s the gritty part:

Show up the first day of the conference, nicely dressed but not overly so. Bring your own stick on name tag, and in thick felt pen, write your name, like: [Mr or Ms] Sammie Smith. Put it on your upper chest. Take a deep breath and show up at the first coffee break of the conference. Coffee breaks are typically held outside the meeting rooms and registration desk - YOU don’t have to pay to show up for coffee. If you are timid about having coffee, pour a glass of water that will also be there and slowly, very slowly start walking between people having coffee - the bigger the crowd the better. Smile but don’t overdo it. Don’t reach out to shake hands. If you notice someone looking at you and your homemade name tag - this is good!!!! They are onto you - that’s good! Stand still if it looks like you have a bite. Wait for them to come over, or meet them half way. THEN shake their hand and introduce yourself, handing out a card.

Immediately they are going to ask if you are a student - “Yes, I wanted to meet some HR professionals and thought this might be a good start.”

Don’t be surprised if they introduce you to two or three more HR types. If they ask, tell them you are coming to the afternoon coffee session as well. And come back for the scheduled afternoon break.

Before you dismiss this idea outright consider the odds of: having someone meet you versus their reading your randomly submitted resume about HR positions. Go for it.

What is the difference between an MSc in human resource management and an MA in human resource management degree?

Probably just what is on the diploma.

Schools have their own historical reasons for why they call something Masters of Science versus Masters of Arts. Science traditionally is considered the more applied flavor. If you are comparing different schools, look at the courses. Pro tip…look for the school that aligns with SHRM. If it is two degrees at the same school, same thing…look at the required courses.

Human resource management?

Depending on which part of the world you are in, you should look for bachelors, masters or diploma courses that are certified by the HRM respective body in that region.

In USA, for example, it is SHRM and in Europe - CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development). Courses are usually titled as “Human Resource Management”.

Thanks for the A2A.

I don’t know what to say other than you apply for admission to a Masters program at a university, get a study permit, pass the course, get a post-graduate work permit and then hope you can convert it into Permanent Residence.

If you really want to be a Human Resource professional, an overseas qualification really won’t help much here. There is just too much cultural and legal content in the work for it to translate into work here.

I wish I could recommend a generalist HR masters degree here, but I’ve been out of it too long. Some universities have Masters in IR, but I think someone from outside the country needs a broader background than that— but maybe they aren’t as specialised as they sound.

However, some colleges here do offer post-graduate diplomas in HR for people with bachelor’s degrees— but they are not Masters level degree, which would probably carry more weight. They would probably not be a ticket to anything above pure entry level, but you have to start somewhere.

How good is the scope of employment in Human Resource department after graduation in Management psychology/business psychology?2021-08-02 12:22:45Mr_严

I presume James, with his atrocious non-answer is giving a tongue in cheek example of poor grammar, but still I didn’t find the grammar in the question that bad. People write in a hurry these days, texting, emailing and even speaking a little too quickly and without proof-reading a bit too much of the time. I’m guilty. I think almost all of us are.

Nevertheless, to offer an answer to the question. I have a BA psych and a school counseling masters as well as a couple of years of engineering at university and a couple of MBA courses… and some other stuff… a lifelong learner. I found that grounding perfectly adequate, even very useful most of the time, to do anything I wanted in HR. But you can’t walk in the door with that and get an HR job. You need to study HR in some fashion. It is a huge field, with mountains of information and knowledge as well as some skill required that isn’t easily taught in any course, but comes with maturity and experience. So I’d say start reading, look at your local HR society and its requirements for certification as an HR professional and start applying for jobs, expecting to start near the bottom and work your way up as long as you continue learning.

You could minor in business management with strategy and then switch to HR in your final (2) year (s) and if in the UK join the CPID asap. Also try your best to read as much about Strategic Human Resources as you can while reading the HR element of business management. It depends as you can blend it but its really up to you as HR degree would more than likely get you specific jobs.
