Hello there !!!

Yes there are definitely a lot of advantages if you score an 8.5 in the IELTS examination. Some of the major ones are listed below -

  1. Acquiring an 8.5 in the IELTS makes you stand a better chance in regards to the university admissions abroad. For any university/ college education admission abroad, an ideal IELTS score is an overall 6.5 band with no individual band less than a 6.0 pointer. Thus scoring an 8.5 in IELTS will make you stand way ahead of the cut-off score and increasing your overall chances of admission.
  2. If its an overall 8.5 in the IELTS General examination, you stand a definite chance of an enhanced CRS score / added points towards your immigration application/PR/TR Application to respective immigration authorities.
  3. In addition to it, if you are specifically eyeing for good funding opportunities in universities abroad, a good IELTS Score will definitely add on to your overall profile. Please note that IELTS is not the only criteria when the universities consider your profile for scholarship applications and a lot of other external factors are considered while making that decision. It means you need to have a decent enough overall profile to be even considered for such an opportunity with a university abroad. Only then you will be considered for the suitable scholarship opportunity.
  4. Lastly, the worth of IELTS while finding a suitable full-time job opportunity in your own country is still questionable and something that holds different perspectives for different individuals. If you achieve a good score in IELTS you can definitely put that in your resume but given the fact that unless its an English speaking country where you are planning to apply for work, it does not make much sense for the employers as any day your core technical skills from the field of your specialization will weigh more to them along with what benefits you bring to the organization overall.
  5. However while applying for professions like language trainers, call center executives, tour guides or translators among others you might find it relevant to include your IELTS score on your resume, but then you always have professional business communication courses that bring more weightage to your overall profile professionally. One such course being the Business English Certificate [BEC] organized by the British Council.
