What IELTS score do I need to get into a good university in the UK?

Well, the IELTS requirements for both the undergraduate and postgraduate are different in the UK. Usually, it is 6.0 bands for undergraduate programs and 6.5 bands for postgraduation.

However, it also depends on the school as well as the programs. Some programs require up to 7 bands for an undergraduate program such as Nursing, Creative writing, psychology, etc.

The good thing is that the IELTS entry requirements for most of the universities are similar. If you get a score of 6.5 bands (not less than 6.0 bands individually) as an undergraduate applicant and 7.0 bands (not less than 6.5 individually) as a postgraduate applicant would get you an admit from most of the universities.

IELTS is actually not a major factor to get you an admit - it’s just to check your English language proficiency. As long as you meet the minimum entry requirements, you are most likely to be in.

If you wish to get into the top ten universities in the UK then maintain a GPA of 65–70 on the scale of 0–100. Your SOP (Statement of Purpose) is also a major deciding factor in it.

Many of the tier-2 universities are now waiving off the IELTS based on your Higher secondary school marks in English subject. If you get more than 70% in English, it will be knocked off. Do take note that this is only applicable for Indian students; check the entry requirement for a particular country before applying.
